Fern Point

As Fernpoint a hotel and former residential building at will Fernpoint in the Scottish town of Inveraray referred. The house is located near the coast of Loch Fyne and not far from the boat dock. It is north of the city's court and prison building .

In 1748, Archibald Campbell , the 3rd Duke of Argyll , authorized merchant John Richardson to build a building at Fern Point. This was completed in 1753 and thus formed the first house in the new planned town of Inveraray. It housed the Fernpoint Hotel for many years . Today the First House Hotel is located there . In 1966, Fern Point was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

In terms of architecture, Fern Point has the characteristics of the Georgian style . It consists of several nested three-story wings. The main entrance is located on a round stair tower that connects directly to the main wing. In this a spiral staircase leads to the upper floors. The entrance area has Doric columns with a short decorative gable. The tower ends with a conical roof . At the south end there are two flatter extensions with pent roofs . All other parts of the building finish with hipped roofs . All facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique and the roofs are covered with slate shingles. The house edges are provided with separate decorative ribbons.
