Fernanda Seno

Fernanda Seno Cardeira Alves (born February 23, 1942 in Canha , Montijo , † May 19, 1996 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese poet , writer, journalist and teacher.

Life

After the early death of her mother in 1963, Fernanda Seno interrupted her studies of German at the University of Lisbon , but later successfully completed it. She then worked as a teacher. In 1970 she married Manuel Joaqim Valente, the two had a son in 1971 and moved to Évora together in 1974 , where she lived until she died. It was here that she began working as a journalist for various local newspapers.

In 1984 her first volume of poetry As Palavras Às Vezes ( Sometimes the words ) was published, followed by Trilho de Pó ( Dusty Way ) in 1991 and Cântico Vertical ( Vertical Song ) in 1992 . Posthumously nor the work appeared Na Fronteira da Luz ( On the edge of the light ). A novel that she started but did not finish has still not been published. Her works have a very personal character, in which she combines love, faith, personal friendships and social origins in partly unorthodox forms.

Fernanda Seno died in Lisbon in 1996. A street in Évora has been named after the poet since 1998 in memory of the poet.
