Fernando Arêas Rifan (born October 25, 1950 in São Fidélis , Brazil ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Personnel Administration of St. John Maria Vianney .

Life

Fernando Areas Rifan received on 8 December 1974, the ordination of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Campos and was succeeded by his former bishop who excommunicated in 1988 Antônio de Castro Mayer , in which the Society of St. Pius X. associated altritualistische "Fraternity of St.. Johannes Maria Vianney “( União Sacerdotal São João Maria Vianney ) and in 2002 the unauthorized consecrated Bishop Licínio Rangel returned to the full communion of the Roman Catholic Church . The re-union became possible after the Vatican granted the establishment of an Apostolic Personnel Administration for the ancient ritualists in the area and within the boundaries of the diocese of Campos dos Goytacazes , Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and the posthumous appointment of a successor to Bishop Rangel. Because of serious illness Rangel received on June 28, 2002 a bishop coadjutor in the person of Fernando Arêas Rifan, who was appointed titular bishop of Cedamusa . This was on 18 August 2002 by Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos , prefect of the Congregation for Clergy , and Licinio Rangel after the former Roman Pontifical (in its 1962 version used) to the bishop consecrated. With the death of his predecessor on December 16, 2002, Bishop Rifan succeeded him.

Rifan is currently the only bishop of the ancient ritualists united with Rome worldwide and does not limit his activities to the area and borders of the diocese of Campos dos Goytacazes .
