The Roman Catholic Diocese of Campos ( lat. : Dioecesis Campo sinus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Campos dos Goytacazes in the state of Rio de Janeiro .
history
The diocese of Campos was founded on December 4, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad supremae Apostolicae Sedis from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Niterói and subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan . On March 26, 1960, the diocese of Campos gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Nova Iguaçu . The diocese of Campos was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Niterói as a suffragan on March 26, 1960.
In 2002, the Apostolic Personnel Administration of St. John Maria Vianney was established on the territory of the diocese, going back to the former Bishop of Campos, Antônio de Castro Mayer , and the disputes over the liturgical reform after the Second Vatican Council .
