Luis Fernando Olivera Vega (born September 14, 1958 in Lima ) is a Peruvian politician and was Foreign Minister of Peru from August 12 to August 16, 2005.

Life

Fernando Olivera was elected to the Peruvian Parliament in 1985 at the age of 26 as the youngest member of the Movimiento Independiente Convergencia Democrática list. In 1990 he founded the Frente Independiente Moralizador (FIM), of which he is chairman. In the 2004 elections it received nine seats. The FIM supported President Toledo in Congress , where his Peru Posible (PP) party did not have a majority of its own. In 2001 Olivera became Minister of Justice of Peru.

Olivera was considered an uncompromising investigator of corruption cases . He set up the parliamentary committee of inquiry, which tried to clarify the origin of the assets of the former President Alan García as well as irregularities in his administration. He caused a sensation nationwide with a video showing Vladimiro Montesinos , the former closest collaborator of ex-President Alberto Fujimori , handing over a sum of $ 15,000 to opposition MP Alberto Kouri for his move to the presidential alliance of 2000.

Because of his undiplomatic nature, Olivera was controversial both in the opposition and in parts of the cabinet . Olivera, who is not a career diplomat , has been appointed ambassador to Spain . Shortly before his appointment as foreign minister, he had pledged support to three provincial governments who had approved the cultivation of coca plants in several valleys, even though they can be used to make cocaine .

Fernando Olivera's appointment as Foreign Minister led to the resignation of Prime Minister Ferrero and thus the entire government on August 11, 2005 .
