Carlos Ferrero Costa

Carlos Ferrero Costa (born February 7, 1941 in Lima ) is a Peruvian politician. He was Prime Minister of Peru from December 15, 2003 to August 16, 2005 .

Life

Carlos Ferrero Costa studied law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). From 1965 to 1982 he worked for the Peruvian Central Bank ( Banco Central de Reserva del Perú ), from 1982 to 1992 in his law firm. At first he was also editor of the magazine Testimonio . In 1992 he was elected to the Constituent Assembly ( Asamblea Constituyente ) and in 1993 for the Cambio 90 - Nueva Mayoría party of President Alberto Fujimori in the Peruvian Congress . After Ferrero fell out of favor with Fujimori, he switched to the opposition and was a Member of Parliament for Perú Posible . On November 22nd, 2000 he was elected President of the Peruvian Congress.

On December 15, 2003, President Alejandro Toledo appointed him Prime Minister after his predecessor Beatriz Merino resigned as Prime Minister under pressure from President Toledo. Carlos Ferrero Costa resigned on August 11, 2005 after President Toledo had appointed Fernando Olivera foreign minister against Ferrero's will . Ferrero remained Prime Minister until his successor Pedro Pablo Kuczynski took office on August 16, 2005.

His brother Eduardo Ferrero Costa was Peruvian Foreign Minister from July 17, 1997 to October 12, 1998, during Fujimori's presidency .
