Fernando de Moraes , often just Fernando , (born January 21, 1980 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian-Australian football and futsal player . In Brazil he only played under-class, in his adopted home Australia he became a crowd favorite with the second-rate Victorian national division South Melbourne FC . For the New Zealand Knights he played a few games in the A-League at the end of 2006 . Since his naturalization, he has also appeared many times for the Australian national futsal team .

Fernando only played futsal at club level until he was 21 , including at Corinthians São Paulo . Until 2004 Fernando played with the Brazilian football club Palestra de São Bernardo from São Bernardo do Campo in the outskirts of the city of São Paulo in the fourth national league, before he moved to Melbourne to his sister and there the South Melbourne FC , a club that is essentially Greek Immigrants established.

Fernando quickly established himself in the team. On recommendation, he traveled to Athens in June 2006 to complete a trial training at the local Egaleo AO , but received no offer and was back in Melbourne three weeks later. Despite his absence, he was the club's top scorer in the state league with 12 goals at the end of the season. With 13 points behind Oakleigh Cannons, South Melbourne was third in the league but qualified via the play-offs for the final, in which Altona Magic was defeated 1-0 on September 24th. Fernando was awarded the Jimmy Rooney Medal as the best player of the finals .

The attacking midfielder then played for the New Zealand A-League club New Zealand Knights for some time . He made his debut on October 22nd in a 4-2 loss at Adelaide United . It was sorted out before the end of December. After a disappointing time for club and player and only a handful of games, also primarily as a substitute, he was back in Melbourne in February 2007 and signed a two-year contract with South Melbourne.

With a clever goal, in which he outmaneuvered Sunshine George Cross's somewhat careless goalkeeper , he also became a star in Brazil, albeit only for half a minute.

Fernando took part in the 2008 Asian Cup with the Australian national futsal team. Despite their two hits in the quarter-finals against hosts Thailand, Australia lost 5-2, which meant that Australia missed the World Cup finals for the first time. In May 2012 he contributed with an important goal in a 3-2 win against Kuwait to qualify the Qantas Futsalroos for the 2012 Futsal World Cup in Thailand. There he was a regular player, but Australia was eliminated after 1: 9, or 1: 7 defeats against Italy and Argentina with only one win against Mexico in the first round.

Fernando de Moraes is the second naturalized Brazilian to play for a selection of the Australian Football Association, following Agenor Muniz , who started for the senior national team in the 1970s.
