The district heating plant Linz-Mitte is a 1970 put into use remote - heating plant in Linz . Together with the Linz-Süd district heating power station, it supplies the city of Linz and the surrounding area with electricity and district heating. The operator is Linz AG .
It has two gas and steam turbine systems with 105 MW electrical and 85 MW district heating output and 114 MW electrical and 86 MW district heating output. Connected is a biomass plant with an electrical output of 8,900 kW and a thermal district heating output of 21,000 kW, which is currently the second largest Austrian biomass cogeneration plant. In addition, a district heating storage system was built which, with a height of around 65 meters and a capacity of 34,500 cubic meters, is the second largest in Europe and one of the fifth largest in the world. In 2012, a waste incineration plant went into operation on the site, which has a maximum capacity of 230,000 tons per year.
The 183 meter high chimney is the tallest structure in Linz and one of the 20 tallest structures in Austria.
