Ferocactus alamosanus is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet alamosanus refers to the Mexican city of Álamos , where the species was found.
description
Ferocactus alamosanus usually grows individually and only rarely sprouts. The depressed spherical to short columnar shoots reach heights of up to 1 meter with diameters of 30 centimeters or more. There are 12 to 20 narrow, sharp-edged or blunt to rounded ribs . The needle-like thorns are yellow. The single, protruding central spine is angular, somewhat flattened on the side and up to 6 centimeters long. The mostly eight, somewhat spreading radial spines have a length of 3 to 4 centimeters.
The funnel-shaped, greenish yellow flowers reach a length of up to 4.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 3.5 centimeters. The up to 4 centimeters long, egg-shaped fruits are yellow and tear open with a basal pore.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Ferocactus alamosanus is found in the Mexican states of Sonora , Michoacán , Oaxaca and Colima .
It was first described as Echinocactus alamosanus in 1913 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . In 1922, the two authors placed the species in their newly established genus Ferocactus .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
