Ferreola is a genus of the sawfly (Pompilidae). There are five types in Europe.

features

The species of the genus Ferreola are medium to large, completely black wasps. Her body is smooth and short, close-fitting, with dark flowers. The head and thorax have a bluish tinge. The front is convex in front of the antennae . The inner edges of the compound eyes are concave at the top and slightly converging below. The frontal plate ( clypeus ) is long and almost flat. It is provided with punctiform structures and its apical edge is slightly concave. The labrum is covered by the front plate. The maxillary palps are shortened. The mandibles have a pointed tip and an additional tooth. The metapostnotum is covered by the metanotum and only visible from the side. The propodeum has posterolateral processes and the back is smooth. The wings are tinted brown and have a dark band at the top. The wing mark ( pterostigma ) is small. The legs have short thorns. The tarsi of the front legs have inconspicuous tarsal crests in the females. All claws are bifid.

Way of life

The wasps hunt spiders in the Eresidae family .
