The Usharma Fortress ( Georgian უჯარმის ციხე ) is a medieval Georgian fortress in the Kakheti region , in the Sagaredscho municipality .

It is located about four kilometers north of the village of the same name Udscharma , on the right bank of the Iori River and near the Gombori mountain pass.

According to the Georgian chronicler Leonti Mroweli (11th century), the foundation stone of the Udscharma fortress was laid by the Georgian-Iberian King Aspagur in the 3rd – 4th centuries . Century. During the reign of King Vakhtang Gorgassali , the fortress was expanded and used as a residence, and it subsequently remained an important place.

When the Arabs invaded the Caucasus region , previously dominated by Persia , Udschamara was conquered in 914. The fighting had left heavy damage to the building fabric. A small settlement was built in the ruins. It was not until the 12th century that Udscharma was taken over by the Georgian King Giorgi III. renewed as a fortress. This complex was also destroyed again and again in the following centuries, so only a ruin remained there.
