Fortress Division Gotenhafen (Wehrmacht)

The Fortress Division Gotenhafen , including Marine Fortress Division Gotenhafen was a short-lived major unit of the Army of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Division history

The division was hastily set up at the beginning of January 1945 in the West Prussian port city of Gotenhafen to defend the naval units stationed in the town's naval port for the naval commander West Prussia ( strategy of fixed positions ) without achieving division strength. The division was initially included in the Gotenhafen area.

The division capitulated on March 28, 1945 in Gotenhafen to the Red Army . Remnants of the division were initially able to settle on the heights of the Öxhöfter Kämpe and from here by ship to the west via Hela .
