Fire pen

The Mannheim fire pen is the only city writer 's scholarship in Germany for children's and youth literature . The prize is organized by the Mannheim City Library and awarded by an independent jury. The literary award has been given every two years since 2007 to a German-writing author and consists of a three-month stay in the tower of the old fire station in Mannheim, financed with 3000 euros, as well as an additional prize money of 6000 euros.

The prize is awarded for an artistically valuable prose text for children or young people that is related to Mannheim. During the three-month stay in the city, the novel idea is to be worked out.

The fire pen is donated by the sponsorship group of the Mannheim City and Music Library , the Heinrich Vetter Foundation and the S. Fischer Verlag .
