The fire tower in Bad Kissingen

The fire tower at Turmgasse 6 in Bad Kissingen , the major district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen, is one of the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-72-114-68 .

history

The fire tower was built in the 15th century as the corner tower of the town's former fortifications. The round of sandstone existing HAU or Bruchsteinmauerwerksbau formed the southeast corner of the former wall fourfold.

The tower has served as a fire watch tower since 1850 . In 1854 the tower was expanded, creating the upper floor and the conical roof .

As part of the preparatory work for the planned sewer rehabilitation in the old town, it turned out in September 2017 that the tower slopes towards the southeast. The slope is 20 centimeters at a height of 26 meters. The reasons seem to be a foundation depth of only 1.50 meters and the unstable subsoil. Perhaps the problem arose from particularly deep work when building the canal under the tower.
