The fire Waldsänger ( Oreothlypis gutturalis , Syn. : Parula gutturalis , Vermivora gutturalis ) is a small songbirds from the family of Waldsänger (Parulidae). Some authors put it in the wood warbler genus Vermivora .

Adult fire warblers reach a body length of twelve centimeters and weigh around ten grams. The wingspan is 6.3 to 6.7 centimeters in the male; in the female 5.9 to 6.4 centimeters. Males have a slate-gray upper side plumage, an orange-red throat and chest area and a white to grayish lower side plumage. The triangular black area on the coat behind the neck is characteristic. Females and young birds have yellow-orange throat and breast plumage. The black spot on the coat is narrower and thinner in the female.

Fire Warbler feed mainly on insects and spiders, which they track down in the low vegetation and in the lower areas of the trees. Occasionally, berries and mistletoe are also included. The breeding season takes place between March and May. A clutch consists of two eggs.

Fire warblers are endemic to the mountain ranges (cordillera) of South Central America. Their breeding areas are located in the mixed mountain forests in the mountain regions (Cordillera Central) of Costa Rica and western Panama from an altitude of 2000 meters. Other habitats can be found in the Cordillera de Talamanca mountains and around the Irazú volcano . Outside the breeding season, in the rainy season from September to November, they migrate to the lower regions up to an altitude of 1400 meters.
