Fire department in Slovakia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fire department in Slovakia is one of the youngest fire departments in Europe . With the dissolution of Czechoslovakia , the Czech Republic and Slovakia gained independence from each other. As a result, the fire and rescue services had to be reorganized. This reorganization was completed in April 2002.

General

The fire brigade in Slovakia is regulated in the State Fire Brigade Act No. 314/2002 (as of 2011). The law encompasses the competencies of the state authorities and institutions as well as the municipalities in the field of preventive and defensive fire protection . In addition, the tasks and equipment of the fire protection and rescue units are laid down. The state fire brigade law applies to the professional fire brigades, voluntary community fire brigades, works and company fire brigades and private fire protection companies.

Professional fire brigade

The Presidium for Fire Protection and Rescue (Slovak: "Prezidium Hasicskeho a Zachranneho Zboru") is the state control and supervisory authority for all professional fire departments. It is subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior. The tasks of the presidium include the control of the personnel and technical equipment, the specialist training and the financing of the fire and rescue services. In addition, it is responsible for maintaining national and international cooperation with authorities, institutions and organizations.

In addition to the highest state administrative authority, the Presidium for Fire Protection and Rescue, the professional fire departments are organized in 8 district fire departments and 51 district fire departments. Only the professional fire brigade in Bratislava is directly subordinate to the Presidium, based on a vote by the city itself. From when a professional fire brigade must be available is not regulated by law; it is not uncommon for it to depend on the financial possibilities of the respective municipality.

Rescue and recovery units

In addition to the normal fire brigades, there are also other special rescue and recovery units. From 1993 these were subordinate to the Slovak Army. These military units were converted into civilian disaster control units (Slovak: "Zachranna Brigada Armady") in 1997 and subordinated to the Civil Protection Office and in 2003 for political reasons they were subordinated to professional fire brigades.

These units are highly specialized and are intended to provide technical and logistical support to the fire and rescue services in major incidents.

The bases and priorities of the disaster control units are:

  • Malacky
    • Technical rescue and assistance
    • ABC accidents
    • Provision of emergency accommodation
    • Industrial accidents
  • Žilina
    • Railway and traffic accidents with dangerous substances
    • Accidents in difficult terrain
  • Humenné
    • Mountain and height rescue
    • Flood disasters

Voluntary community fire brigade

The volunteer fire brigades report directly to the respective municipalities. According to the law, you are involved in "supporting security and fire protection". According to the law, a voluntary fire brigade must be provided by the cities and municipalities with a population of 500 or more. The cities and municipalities can delegate the tasks of preventive and defensive fire protection to private fire protection companies.

The volunteer fire brigade is divided into active departments and supporting passive fire brigade associations. In total, Slovakia has around 2,850 volunteer fire brigades with around 100,000 members.

The volunteer fire brigades have formed a fire brigade association (Dobrovolna poziarna ochrana SR).

Plant and company fire departments

Industrial companies and private companies are free to set up factory and company fire departments. However, these are then to be trained and equipped in accordance with the State Fire Brigade Act.
