Malacky (German Malatzka - also outdated Kirchlee / Kyrchle , Hungarian Malacka ) is a district town in the far west of Slovakia . It is located about 35 kilometers from the capital Bratislava and is one of the centers of the Záhorie region . It is also the cultural and economic center for the communities in the vicinity and is the capital of the Malacky district .
history
The small town was first mentioned in a document in 1231 , when the area came into the possession of the Counts of Pezinok (Bösing). The area was mostly inhabited by Germans from the late Middle Ages until well into the Turkish era. Due to the extensive depopulation of the area in the course of the Turkish wars , after the end of the chaos of war, there was a strong Slovak immigration to the depopulated area. In 1808 the place burned down. In 1880 (census) the city still had 17.2% German inhabitants, in 1930 (census) it still had 5.0%. In 1945/46 this remaining German population was also expelled to Austria and Germany by the ČSR government ( Beneš decrees ). The city was a part of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it was part of Czechoslovakia until 1992 , with an interruption during World War II . 1939–1945 there were some offices of the protection zone of the German Empire in Slovakia in the city .
