Plavecký Mikuláš (up to 1960 Slovak "Plavecký Svätý Mikuláš"; German bladder stone St. Nicholas , Hungarian Detrekőszentmiklós ) is a municipality in the Okres Malacky within the Bratislavský kraj in Slovakia .
geography
The place is in the Záhorská nížina (Záhorie lowlands) on the western slope of the Little Carpathians in the Záhorie (German Marchauen ) on the Starý potok brook . It is 26 kilometers from Malacky , 27 kilometers from Senica and 60 kilometers from Bratislava .
In the Little Carpathians there is the Kršlenica Nature Reserve within the Little Carpathian Nature Reserve . The reserve was established to protect karst landscape and rare plant and animal species. There you will find the caves Deravá skala ("holey rock"), Tmavá skala ("dark rock") and Čierna skala ("black rock").
history
Plavecký Mikuláš was mentioned in writing in 1394 as Zentmiklos , then in 1444 as Sanctus Nicolaus . There was a church there as early as 1224, but this has not been preserved.
Until 1918 the place was in Pressburg County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1960 the attribute svätý (= holy) was removed from the name for political reasons.
