history

In 1947 Karl Maier founded a craft business to manufacture lathes . At that time still under the name Maier & Co. , the entrepreneur laid the foundation stone for today's machine tools in the mid-1950s with the miniature lathes of the UNIMAT series. After Karl Maier's death, his son Ernst Alexander took over the company at the end of the 1970s and renamed it Ernst Maier Company - Emco for short .

The company grew until the early 1990s and established itself as a manufacturer of CNC industrial and CNC training machines, hardness testers, woodworking machines and laser cutting devices. Business was good until 1993. When the entire machine tool industry plunged into one of its worst crises, Emco got into trouble too. The A-Tec Industries AG , an international industrial holding company headquartered in Vienna, took over the manufacturer. After the insolvency of A-Tec-Industries AG, the company was bought by Kuhn Holding for 37.7 million euros in 2012, to which it has belonged ever since.

Apprenticeship training

Emco is currently training more than 35 industrial and commercial apprentices in five professions. These include: mechatronics technician, machining technician, industrial clerk and information technology specialist. In addition to fulfilling the classic job description, the training of commercial apprentices focuses on working on Emco lathes and milling machines. For commercial apprentices in the professions of mechatronics and machining technicians, Emco invested one million euros at the Hallein location in 2017 in order to create appropriate framework conditions for theoretical and practical training on 700 square meters. For Emco apprentices there is the possibility of further training and further development. Among other things, an apprenticeship with a high school diploma or a master craftsman qualification are offered. Emco has been a cooperation partner of Skills Austria and the VDW Young Talent Foundation for many years.
