Fevzi Baron or Baron Fevzi (* 1893 in Istanbul ; † unknown) was a Turkish football player , referee and official. He played for the three clubs Fenerbahçe Istanbul , Altınordu İdman Yurdu and Beşiktaş Istanbul and was home to the former. Because of his elegant style of play and his well-groomed appearance, he was called Baron Fevzi (Eng. Fevzi, the Baron ) during player times . He adopted his nickname as a surname in 1934 with the Turkish Family Name Act.

Player career

society

Fevzi began with club football in the youth team of Fenerbahçe Istanbul and played here with later luminaries such as Alaaddin Baydar , Hasan Kâmil Sporel and Bekir Refet . After the entry of the Ottoman Empire into the First World War on August 2, 1914, all football players from Fenerbahçe's first team and also from the other teams from Istanbul were drafted into military service. Little by little, younger and younger players moved up into the first team. Among these players was the young Fevzi, who was included in the squad for the 1917/18 season. With Fenerbahçe he played in the İstanbul Cuma Ligi (German: Istanbul Friday League), the most prestigious league in the country at the time. It was the only league to continue playing between 1915 and 1918. With his team Baron was in the Cuma League season 1917/18 behind the club Altınordu İdman Yurdu runner-up in the league. This association was founded in 1909 in the Istanbul district of Kadıköy , the home district of Fenerbahçes, by former members of Galatasaray Istanbul and quickly established itself as a major rival of Fenerbahçes.

Since the Ottoman Empire was one of the losing powers, its capital, Istanbul, was occupied by British , French and Italian troops at the end of the First World War . As a result of the war situation and the subsequent occupation of Istanbul , the Cuma Ligi was no longer continued after the summer of 1918. The English groups organized their own clubs and a league. Due to this occupation, almost all local clubs, including Fenerbahçe, restricted their activities for about two years. Baron only played for Fenerbahçe until the early 1920s and then moved to district rivals Altınordu İY. The exact change Barons to this club is not documented in more detail only the fact that he began to play for this club in 1923 at the latest.

After playing for Altınordu İY for an indefinite period, he moved to league rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul . Here he then played for an indefinite period of time.

National team

Baron made his first international appearance in the first game of the Turkish national team . In the game against the Romanian national team , he was in the starting line-up and played for the full season. After this international debut, he was no longer nominated for the national team.
