Fidel Markus Wohlwend (born April 24, 1808 in Feldkirch ; † May 18, 1883 ibid) was an Austrian landowner and politician. From 1860 to 1865 he was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives of the Reichsrat , from 1861 to 1967 a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and mayor of Feldkirch.

Life

Wohlwend was born as the son of the magistrate's council, grain trader and owner of the Gasthof Engel Josef Anton Wohlwend (1763-1831) and his wife Anna Maria Hämmerle (1771-1823). His parents were also born in Feldkirch and died here. On April 28, 1834, he married Anna Maria Barbara Katharina (Babette) Längle (1815–1890), who came from Schruns , and the marriage remained childless. However, Wohlwend had an adopted daughter who married the director of the Valduna state mental institution in Rankweil.

Wohlwend completed his school education between 1819 and 1825 at the Feldkirch high school . He subsequently worked professionally as a landowner and mayor, and between 1835 and 1841 he also worked as a manufacturer together with Carl Ganahl . He was initially particularly involved in local politics and held the office of mayor of Feldkirch between 1847 and 1850, after which he held this office again from 1858 to 1861. He was also a member of Feldkirch's community committee until 1869. At the state level, he played an important role in Vorarlberg state politics between 1848 and 1849, in 1848 he worked out the draft for a Vorarlberg state constitution. In 1860 he was appointed to the strengthened Reichsrat, and in 1861 he was elected a member of the Austrian House of Representatives by the Vorarlberg state parliament. He was sworn in there on April 29, 1861 as a representative of the rural community electoral district Feldkirch-Dornbirn and belonged to the liberal camp and the constitutional party . He was also a member of the constitutional left. Until his departure at the end of the first legislative period in 1865, he worked together with the Lichtenfels party against the feudal federalists and was considered a staunch opponent of neo-absolutism. In his speeches he devoted himself particularly to financial issues. Wohlwend was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament until 1867 and also served as a member of the Vorarlberg state committee from 1861 to 1867. In 1876 he was elected an honorary member of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Agriculture and was involved as the master rifle of the Feldkirch rifle guild.
