Pulpit in the Basilica of St. Martin, Weingarten

Fidel Sporer (* 1731 in Altdorf, today Weingarten (Württemberg) , † 1811 in Guebwiller , Alsace ) a German was sculptor of the rococo .

Sporer came from an Altdorf stocking knitter family and became known in 1762 with the construction of a pulpit for the monastery church of St. Martin and Oswald of Weingarten Abbey . At the award, he prevailed against the established sculptor Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer with a design that art history counts among the most interesting form inventions of the 18th century and thus became the only local artist represented in the Weingartener Klosterkirche. The contract model for the burnt clay pulpit is kept in the Bode Museum in Berlin.

After this first major commission, Sporer created altars in St. Gallen Minster and the figural groups of false teachers and church teachers in the library of the Schussenried monastery (1764–1766). For the parish church of St. Mary's Assumption in the Ehrenkirchen district of Kirchhofen, he created figures of Petrus and Paulus as well as other decorations for the altar, the design of which is attributed to Johann Christian Wentzinger .

Sporer finally came to Guebwiller in Alsace, where he furnished the new collegiate church in an early classical style.
