List of apple varieties

Fiesta also Red Pippin , colloquially also Red Cox , is a variety of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ).

The apple has an intense, complex aroma and its taste is reminiscent of Cox Orange. Since it is very juicy, Fiesta is a good base for apple juice .

The round apple is medium-sized, a bit larger than Cox Orange. There are reddish stripes on the green-yellowish base color. It shows weak russeting and hardly recognizable lenticels. The stem is long and tight. Its cream-colored flesh is juicy and firm. His skin is firm. When stored for a longer period of time, the taste approaches that of Idared, which has no properties. The tree itself grows vigorously but tends to grow sideways rather than up.

The apple is diploid and therefore suitable as a pollinator for other varieties. It partially fertilizes itself. Fiesta is comparatively easy to grow and produces good regular harvests. Fiesta doesn't ripen until late in the season. In the USA it is harvested from mid-September to mid-October. Like its father variety, Idared, it stores well for a long time. Fiesta from the CA warehouse is still enjoyable in June. He copes well with the climates of Northern England and Scotland . Fiesta suffers from fruit tree cancer in some areas . It is also susceptible to powdery mildew and apple scab .

The tree is grown on a commercial scale in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy and New Zealand.

At the East Malling Research Station , the center of British fruit research, the apple was crossed by Frank H. ALston in 1973. Originally named T31 / 31, the tree was launched as the Fiesta, and was renamed Red Pippin in the UK in 1996. The apple went on sale in 1986. In 1987 the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recommended Fiesta for cultivation, and in 1993 the variety won the RHS Award of Garden Merit .
