The Roman Catholic branch church Schönau an der Donau is located in the village of Schönau an der Donau in the municipality of Groß-Enzersdorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the Probstdorf parish in the Marchfeld deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

The church is located at the southern end of the village of Schönau an der Donau.

Church exterior

The church is a simple baroque building from 1768 with a north tower crowned by a pointed gable. In the east, a small vestibule with a volute gable adjoins the church.

Church interior

The single-nave, two-bay nave is barrel-vaulted with stitch caps . In between there are belt arches that rest on flat wall templates. The choir is the same width as the nave and is slightly higher than the nave. It closes in the 3/6 end.

Furnishing

The high altar is a small baroque columnar altar from 1768. The altarpiece shows St. Nicholas and was painted by Johann Cimbal . The picture is flanked by figures of Saints Peter and Paul . The late Gothic figure of St. Nicholas comes from the end of the 15th century. The glass windows from the beginning of the 20th century are simply designed.
