Branch church Our Lady in front of Spittal

The Church of Our Lady before Spittal in Spittal an der Drau is a branch church of the Roman Catholic. City parish church of the Annunciation and is used for Slovenian church services.

The late baroque / early classicist building was built around 1800. The grid above the portal is marked 1807. The church consists of a swinging, domed central building with a square entrance hall on the north side and a polygonal choir on the south side. The Annunciation to Mary is depicted in the round niche on the corrugated gable above the entrance . The church is structured by pilasters with ionizing fantasy capitals on a high base. The roof is covered with wooden shingles. Inside, a flat vault stretches out between belt arches. The ceiling paintings with scenes from the life of Mary with floral and ornamental accessories as well as an illusionistically painted column tempietto were created in 1807 by Christoph Brandstätter.

The canopy altar with sacrificial passage also dates from this year. A carved coat of arms with a cardinal's hat, probably reminiscent of Cardinal Salm , is attached to the organ parapet .
