Filis Chusmenova

Filis Hakaewa Chusmenowa (also spelled Filiz Hakaeva Hyusmenova , Bulgarian Филиз Хакъева Хюсменова ; born June 10, 1966 in Silistra , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian politician of Turkish descent from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and a member of the European Parliament . She is married, has one child and speaks Turkish and Bulgarian as well as French and Russian.

Life

Filis completed his studies in French and Russian Philology at the University of St. Cyril and Method in Veliko Tarnovo .

She was an assistant for French at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Ruse (1990), then a foreign language expert at the Regional Inspectorate of the Ministry of Education and Science, Silistra (1997). She became Deputy Mayor of Silistra Municipality in 1999, and Deputy Governor of Silistra District in 2001.

Between 2003 and 2005 she was Minister without Portfolio in the government of Simeon Sakskoburggotski . In 2005 she was elected as a member of the 40th National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. Since 2006 she has been a member of the Central Executive Office of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

In 2007 Filis Chusmenowa was elected a member of the European Parliament in the 2007 European elections on the DPS list. She was confirmed in office in the 2009 European elections .

As an EU parliamentarian, she is Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on Regional Development .

She is a member of the delegation in the committees for parliamentary cooperation EU-Armenia, EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Georgia, as well as in the delegation in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly .

She is a deputy in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and in the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China.
