European elections in Bulgaria 2009
The 2009 European elections took place in Bulgaria on June 7, 2009 .
If the Lisbon Treaty were eventually ratified , Bulgaria would have 18 MEPs, compared to 17 at the moment. 6,293,980 voters were entitled to vote. The turnout was 37.49%.

* After the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty , Bulgaria will have 18 MEPs, but by then 17. The GERB party will thus have 5, the “Coalition for Bulgaria” 4, DPS 3, Ataka and NDWS 2 each and the Blue Coalition 1 ( +1 after the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty).

* On July 23, 2009 Rumjana Schelewa was introduced as Foreign Minister in the government of Boyko Borissow (ERB). As a successor, the number 6 in the GERB list, Andrei Kowatschew , will take the place as a Member of the EP.
** On July 10th, 2009 Meglena Kunewa decided to keep her post as EU Commissioner instead of influencing European politics as a member of the European Parliament. Stanimir Iltschew has moved up to her place as a member of the NDSW as third on the list .
*** Svetoslav Malinov is an observer and will only become a member of the European Parliament when the Lisbon Treaty comes into force.
