Rumjana Sheleva

Rumjana Rusewa Schelewa (also written Rumiana Ruseva Jeleva , Bulgarian Румяна Русева Желева ; born April 18, 1969 in Nova Sagora ) is a Bulgarian politician and sociologist. She was Bulgaria's Foreign Minister from July 2009 to January 2010 and was a member of the European Parliament for the GERB party and previously, among other things, a lecturer at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg .

She is a member of the Berlin Forum (International network of business ethics) , the Rotary Club Burgas and the European Association for Rural Sociology .

In 2007 Rumjana Schelewa was elected from the list of GERB as a member of the European Parliament in the 2007 European elections . She was re-elected in the 2009 European elections .

After the Bulgarian parliamentary elections in 2009 , which were won by the GERB party, Rumjana Scheleva was sworn in as Foreign Minister in the government of Boyko Borisov on July 27th . Andrei Kowatschew moved up for them in the European Parliament.

In November 2009, Schelewa was nominated as a member of the European Commission . In the Barroso II Commission , she should be responsible for humanitarian aid and crisis protection . In a survey in the European Parliament, however, doubts about her person were raised: In addition to criticism of the lack of professional competence, she was accused of having provided incomplete information about her additional income during her mandate as a MEP. Her husband was also accused of having relationships with criminal organizations in a number of media, but these allegations were based on anonymous papers that were not confirmed. After various political groups in the European Parliament had indicated that they would not be able to give the Commission a vote of approval because of Sheleva, it withdrew its application on January 19, 2010. She also announced that she would be resigning as Bulgarian Foreign Minister. This was initially not accepted by Prime Minister Borisov, but after further deliberations by the ruling party it was finally accepted. Instead, Kristalina Georgieva was nominated as EU Commissioner and Nikolaj Mladenow was elected as Bulgarian Foreign Minister .
