Film Palace Gloria
The Filmpalast Gloria or Gloria-Palast is a listed building in the city of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 15256 .
The foundation stone for the construction of the movie theater was laid on May 12, 1928. The cinema with today's address at Merseburger Straße 3 was designed by Carl Fugmann on the basis of sketches by the Weißenfels client and entrepreneur Robert Göpfarth. The opening took place after only five months, on October 18, 1928.
The remarkable building in the Bauhaus style, which characterizes the entrance to the Neustadt, impresses with its nested cubes, slotted windows with originally preserved rung division and a corner structure with brick strips. The neon sign "GLORIA" was placed directly on the street. The cinema had 1200 seats and was also used for congresses and variety events. It was already equipped with modern air conditioning and red plush armchairs in the tier and in the hall area.
In 1991 the UFA -Theater AG took over the cinema. In 1994 a discotheque moved into the building, which had to close three years later. The last owner went bankrupt in 2005. Since then the building has stood empty and fell into disrepair. There were several considerations about using the house again, such as: B. as a parking garage . In 2015 it was considered as an alternative location for the city library and the building archive of the city of Weißenfels, but was not implemented. The building was emergency secured in 2019.
