Finkenmühle is a district of Volkmannsdorf in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

geography

The hamlet Finkenmühle consists of the four-sided farm Finkenmühle and the so-called Hübelhaus, it is located about two kilometers north of Volkmannsdorf and can be reached from there via connecting paths. The forest and numerous ponds in the immediate vicinity of the hamlet in the Southeast Thuringian Slate Mountains are under nature and landscape protection.

history

The cutting mill, located on the southern edge of today's Plothener Teiche nature reserve , was a four-sided farm (Vorwerk) after the Thirty Years War in the possession of the Külmla manor , at that time owned by the Lords of Graefendorf and Feilitzsch. In 1785, the Külmla manor with the old manor burned down completely, so the owners got into financial difficulties. Older news about this mill are not known. The abundance of forests and the existing hydropower promoted the establishment of forest trades. The lumberjacks needed a cutting mill to use the logs that were felled. The sale of floorboards and wooden slats was possible all year round. The field names carbonization of a wooded area west of the mill and Kienberg for the easternmost survey also populate the Köhler craft and the presence of Kienrußbrennern . Around 1880 the property was sold to the Knau manor. The Hübelshof, today a popular domicile for holiday guests, is being built on the remote settlement site.
