The Fish River (English for "Fish River") is a 110 km long right tributary of the Saint John River in the US state of Maine .

River course

The Fish River runs in the central north of Aroostook County near the Canadian border. It arises at the confluence of Fox Brook and Carr Pond Stream 3 km south of Fish River Lake . The Fish River flows through the Fish River Lake in a northerly direction and then turns to the east. It flows to Portage Lake , about 20 km further east , which it leaves again at its northern end. It now flows north-northwest to the southern end of Saint Froid Lake, 12.5 km away . From its north end, the Fish River flows 4.5 km to Eagle Lake . Below Eagle Lake, there are still 21 kilometers of flow to the confluence with the Saint John River. At the mouth of the river is the small town of Fort Kent . The opposite bank of the Saint John River from the mouth belongs to the Canadian province of New Brunswick .

Hydrology

The catchment area of the Fish River covers approximately 2315 km². At the gauge 3.4 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 42 m³ / s. April and May are the months with the highest discharge with an average of 96.5 and 140 m³ / s, respectively.
