Fishta ( Albanian  also  Fishtë ) is a village in the north of the municipality of Lezha in northern Albania . The place is on the eastern edge of the Zadrima plain. The population is given as around 200.

Until 2015 Fishta belonged to the municipality of Blinisht , a village about three kilometers further west. The municipality ( komuna ) was then merged with the other municipalities of the Lezha district.

Gjergj Fishta's birth house

The Franciscan Gjergj Fishta was born in Fishta in 1871 , probably the most important poet in Northern Albania. His birth house on the southern edge of the scattered village is now a cultural monument.

In contrast to the neighboring villages of Blinisht in the west and Troshan in the south, the registers from the 19th and early 20th centuries mention neither the village nor a church. Today there is a new church building a little southwest of the village center next to the primary school.

In the southeast of the village there are two small reservoirs for irrigation. In the east, the northern foothills of the Skanderbeg Mountains rise to 624  m above sea level. A. at.

During the communist regime, Fishta was a prison and numerous families were interned here.

An asphalt road connects the village via Blinisht with the Lezha – Shkodra expressway (SH1) . Another paved road leads from Vau-Deja through the villages of the eastern Zadrima to Lezha . At the village of Baqël a little west of Fishta there is a stop for the Albanian Railway .
