Fjallabræður ( Isl . : "Brothers of the Mountains" , "Mountain Brothers" ) is the name of a sixty-member Icelandic male choir from Flateyri in Önundarfjörður , which has a five-member band to accompany its songs with rock music. According to a travel report by journalist Sylvia Heinlein in the magazine Effilee , the choir members are Icelandic fishermen and the choir has no choir director.

The choir was founded informally in autumn 2006. He can be heard in the Icelandic documentary Maybe I should have . Among other things, the formation performed in 2008 at Iceland Airwaves .

The choir's first self-named album was released in 2009. The release concert took place on November 29, 2009 in the concert hall of the Háskólabíó cultural center in the Vesturbær district of Reykjavík . Since 2011, the Fjallabræður have also accompanied the singer-songwriter Mugison on several occasions .

In 2014 Eyþór Jóvinsson made a documentary about the choir. Another documentary about recordings of the choir in London's Abbey Road Studios was filmed by Magnús Þór and Jónas Sigurðsson (Jónas Sig for short) with the title Fjallabræður í Abbey Road (Republic of Film Productions; 2016), which is shown on Icelandair's on-board television program (stand : September 2017). The documentary was also broadcast on June 4, 2017 by the public broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið . Ríkisútvarpið has already made several contributions about the choir or songs from the choir have been broadcast.

In January 2017 the album "Fjallabræður & Vinir" (translated: Fjallabræður & Friends ) recorded in Abbey Road Studios with the title … Og þess vegna erum við hér í kvöld was released . Mugison (track 1) and Lay Low (tracks 2 and 4) support the front vocalists on the album . The album was presented on Ríkisútvarpið in early December 2016.
