Fjord Plast was a Norwegian pleasure boat manufacturer. The company headquarters was in Arendal .

history

On July 1, 1960, the Norwegian Alf R. Bjerke founded the company Fjord Plast together with Finn B. Roer . Because of the first two dinghy models, there was a dispute over the copyrights, which Bror With claimed for himself. When product developer Jan Herman Linge was brought in, the company based on Linge's first model, the Fjord 21 Olympic , had great success with the “Fjordling 17” built in 1962 with over 2000 boats sold. The company grew rapidly and was one of the first sports boat manufacturers to rely on glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) for production . In the 1960s the company developed into Northern Europe's largest manufacturer of fiberglass boats.

In its heyday, the company had more than 700 employees and manufacturing facilities in Arendal, Grimstad , Rjukan and the Philippines . By the 1973 oil crisis came Fjord Plast into financial difficulties.

In 1980 the construction of GRP boats with a wooden boat look began.

Fjord Boats AS

In 1981 Fjord Plast AS was sold to Bjørn Minde, Tor Egil Baardsen and Odd Simonsen. Minde then took over the shares of his partners and was the sole owner. He merged Fjord Plast with Wiking Boats to become Fjord Boats AS . Production was only continued at the Rjukan location. In 1991 Minde sold the company to Eivind Astrup, who in 1996 again sold Fjord Boats to Inger Sande Brøvig. At that time, the company's archive was handed over to the Aust-Agder museum .

On March 1, 2006, the German HanseYachts AG, based in Greifswald, took over a majority stake of 51% in Fjord Boats AS . The complete takeover took place in 2007.
