The Middle Area Alb is the natural area 095 of the Swabian Alb in the southwest German stepland .

It is up to 800 meters above sea level south of the cliff line , which almost follows the uppermost Danube valley . This southeastern strip of the Swabian Alb was covered by the upper Molasse Sea in the Miocene , in contrast to the Middle Kuppenalb , which protruded from it. As a result, a landscape with wide areas has formed.

Geological relief of the uppermost rock formations, including the northern Alb foreland, cliff line and edge of the southern Molasse basin

Topographically, it shows spacious plateaus above deeply cut valleys . Although the middle Flächenalb (after Dongus 1972) consists of similar rocks (v. A. Limestones and marls ) as the average Kuppenalb, but it lacks the from reef limestones formed cusps . A narrow strip facing the cliff line is likely to be a predominantly tertiary old area. The Middle Alb is traversed by a steep, abruptly dug valley network. There are spring pots in the valleys.

Fertile loess loam soils and parabrown soils can be found on the Middle Alb . It is used more for agricultural purposes than the Kuppenalb, where most of the Ice Age loess was eroded. In the western part the forest dominates, in the eastern part the agricultural area. In places, various loess blankets have also been preserved as flat dunes on slopes, which are separated by paleo soils formed during warm periods . Terra fusca (lime-brown loam) and coluvial brown earth are sometimes found on plateaus, and on the slopes of the valley, Rendzina .

With a maximum of 800 mm, the annual precipitation is around 20% lower than on the Kuppenalb, but the climate is similar.
