The flat glass Wernberg GmbH (proper spelling FLACHGLAS Wernberg ) is a glass-processing company based in Wernberg in Bavaria . Founded in 1938, the glass processing company is one of the leading manufacturers of building glass and vehicle glass in Europe and the European market leader in vehicle glazing for rail vehicles.
history
The company was founded in 1938 as a branch of Sicherheitsglas GmbH, Kunzendorf / Niederlausitz (now Poland) at the Wernberg-Köblitz location under the name SIGLA GmbH. The plant in Wernberg was leased by Deutsche Tafelglas AG ( DETAG ) in 1946 and acquired by DETAG three years later.
In 1970 Deutsche Tafelglas AG merged with DELOG and Flachglas AG was created . Ten years later, the acquisition of the majority of the shares in Flachglas AG resulted in the incorporation into the British Pilkington Group , one of the largest glass manufacturers in Europe.
In 1998 Flachglas AG was restructured.
In 1999 the plant in Wernberg-Köblitz was separated from the Pilkington Group and now operates as an independent company under the current name Flachglas Wernberg GmbH .
In 2005 Flachglas Wernberg GmbH acquired Glashandelsgesellschaft Profi mbH in Luhe-Wildenau, two years later Flachglas Nord-Ost GmbH in Osterburg and in July 2009 Flachglas Wernberg GmbH took over all Swiss subsidiaries of Pilkington Deutschland AG. These were combined under the holding company Flachglas Schweiz AG and include the locations in Wikon (company headquarters) and Thun .
Products
The company processes glass into various glass products in the building and vehicle glazing sectors. In the field of building glazing, thermal insulation glass , solar control glass , soundproof glass and safety glass are manufactured. Glazing systems for vehicles are manufactured for rail vehicles , road vehicles and watercraft .
