The women's soccer department of the sports club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro (officially: Clube de Regatas do Flamengo ) has existed since 1995 with a break of several years and is currently one of the top division teams in Brazil .
history
For the first time Flamengo had set up a women's team in 1995, with which he competed in the championship of women's football of the state of Rio de Janeiro . With the provisional suspension of the championship made after the 2001 season, the dissolution of the team coincided. In 2011, Flamengo began building a new women's team, for which a partnership with the Brazilian naval forces was won in 2015. In the same year the team was able to get back into the game operation of the state championship and immediately win the championship title. Since then, the team has dominated the Rio Championship, although the level of competition is not considered to be particularly high, especially in comparison with that of the state of São Paulo .
In 2015 Flamengo was able to take part in the national women's football championship for the first time . Already in his second participation in 2016 he won the title, making Flamengo the only club in the recent championship history that was able to break through the dominance of the clubs from the Paulista state. The final games against Rio Preto EC (0: 1; 2: 1), which were tied after goals, could only be decided successfully thanks to the away goals regulation. As the defending champion, Flamengo was set for the first season of the newly established first division of the Brazilian championship (Série A1) in 2017.
After a 5-0 final win against Duque de Caxias FC , Flamengo secured their fourth national championship title in a row on November 24, 2018.
