Flames is a Greek thrash and death metal band from Athens that was formed in 1984. The band has already shared the stage with other metal bands such as Motörhead , Kreator , Sodom , Running Wild , Dirty Rotten Imbeciles , Tankard and Exodus .
history
The band was formed in 1984 by guitarist and singer Chris Kirk. A short time later, his brother and bassist Andy Kirk joined the band. In the same year they started working on their first album called Made in Hell . The album was recorded in the summer of 1985 by guitarist Chris Kirk, Nigel "Earring" Foxxe (electric guitar, vocals) and bassists Ted Pope and Andy Kirk. Instead of a real drummer, a drum machine was used. The album was released in 1985 in Greece via FM Records and in Germany via Babylon Records .
The second album Merciless Slaughter followed in 1986. The album was recorded in the same studio. Gus Collins was the drummer on the recordings. Bassist Ted Pope left the band while recording their first album. The album was released in Greece through FM Records and worldwide through Magic Music .
The EP Live in the Slaughter House was released in 1987. The EP consisted of four live pieces, on which singer Nigel Foxxe could be heard. Foxxe was replaced in 1986 by the German Alex Ossek. Drummer George Adrian was also a new member of the band.
In 1988 the album Summon the Dead was released internationally via Black Dragon Records . Flames was the first Greek metal band to record an international release. After the release, various live performances followed to promote the album. A year later, the band released their next album, Last Prophecy, on FM Records. The publication was followed by live performances again.
The album Nommen Illi Mors was released in 1991 via Molon Lave Records . A new singer, Tom T., was featured on the album. In 1992, drummer George Adrian and bassist Andy Kirk left the band, so guitarist Chris Kirk was the only remaining original member. Live performances followed, with Andy Kirk being replaced by bassist Elias.
The album In Agony Rise was released in 1996 via Poko Rekords . The singer was the German Flo Gebhardt.
style
The band initially played slow thrash and death metal, whereas later releases became later and wilder. The vocals are reminiscent of the singer of the band Exorcist .
