The Flatiron Valley (English for iron valley ) is a north-south oriented valley with a lake in the east of the Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in the southern part of Ganymede Heights not far from the Jupiter Glacier .
The name was given in the course of joint work by a team of geologists from the University of Aberdeen and the British Antarctic Survey from 1978 to 1979. It is named after triangular facets on a slope on the west side of the valley that are reminiscent of the impressions of an iron .
