In Formula 1, the design of a front wing, which was introduced by Red Bull Racing and Ferrari for the 2010 season, is called a flutter wing or wobbly wing .

The front wings on the Red Bull RB6 and Ferrari F10 were designed in such a way that they twisted backwards when there was high pressure . As a result, the end plates of the wing lowered almost to the roadway. The reason for this was a pretensioning of the carbon structure so that it could stretch in order to bring about the lowering. The FIA responded to McLaren's criticism with tougher test methods. Since the Belgian Grand Prix in 2010 , the wings have been subjected to double the weight during technical acceptance.

The test blocks (edge ​​length 30 cm and width of 15 cm) with a weight of 100 kg are placed 795 mm to the right and left of the center line of the vehicle and 800 mm in front of the front axle on the front wing. The two wing tips must not bend down by more than 10 millimeters.

Since Red Bull and McLaren developed front wings again at the end of the 2012 season , which deformed while driving, but withstood the static load test, the FIA ​​announced that the tests for the front wings would be changed again for the 2013 season . Since then, the load is no longer carried out exactly 800 mm in front of the front axle, but in an extended area of ​​150 millimeters on the longitudinal axis, the weight and the maximum permitted deformation of the wing remained identical.
