Flatwoods is a US town near Ashland, Kentucky in Greenup County . The population was 10,983 in 2010. Flatwoods is part of the Huntington-Ashland-MetropolitanArea (MSA).
Flatwood's original place name was Advance . This was founded by the Methodists in 1860. The name was later changed to Cheap , after John Cheap (a blind Methodist minister). In 1938 the place got the current name Flatwoods.
The city has 6 radio stations or (apart from the national broadcasters) their broadcasting area. These are WKEE , The Dawg , The Plannet , Big Buck Country , WTCR and WLGC , as well as the TV station WSAZ 3 . The biggest tourist attraction in town or in the surrounding area is Greenbo Lake State Resort Park (25 minutes from Flatwoods). The town's best-known son is country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus .
