Form pigeons are pigeons , which according to certain body shapes, the shape types are cultured. The animals of this breed group have a high body mass, which is usually more than six hundred grams in adult animals. They are therefore often suitable as farm pigeons . Breeds specially bred for breeding pigeons are also called meat pigeons or posture pigeons . The majority of the races in this group originated in Germany , the USA , France or Italy . For the most part, shape pigeons are smooth-footed and without a headdress. But there are also belatched breeds (i.e. with feathered feet) and crested breeds . The main interest of the pigeon fanciers is their specific body shape, the plumage and their calm temperament due to their size.

Subgroups and types

Giant pigeons and show pigeons are identifiable subgroups of the form of pigeons.

The actual shape pigeons are somewhat larger than color pigeons , but smaller than giant pigeons; have a typical pigeon shape and can reach or exceed the body weight of giant pigeons. Among them there are short and broad breeds such as Strasser , Mondain and Luchstaube , but also long breeds such as Lahore , Coburg Lerche , Cauchois and Carneau .

Even sailors and Wammentauben be counted among the form of pigeons, although flight sport is played with them.
