FleishmanHillard (short FH ) is one of the largest consulting firm for public relations . It was founded in 1946 in St. Louis , Missouri , is part of the Omnicom Group and has more than 80 offices of its own.

history

The company was founded in St. Louis in 1946 by Alfred Fleishman and Bob Hillard . During the first twenty years of existence it was mainly active in the USA. In 1974 John Graham became the new managing director and began expanding worldwide. When FleishmanHillard was the sixth largest public relations agency in 1996, with sales estimated at $ 108 million, it was acquired by Omnicom . There it belongs to the Diversified Agency Services (DAS) group together with companies such as Ketchum Pleon , Porter Novelli , Clark & Weinstock . By 2006, Graham expanded the company to all continents. Then the company had 79 offices around the world. Graham moved to the board of directors ("Chairman") in 2006 and Dave Senay was his successor. Since November 2015, FH has been headed by John Saunders.

Distribution and business areas

In addition to its traditional main field of activity in North America, FH is also present in Asia and Europe. In Europe, FleishmanHillard is particularly well represented in London , Brussels and in Germany with four locations in Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf. According to the industry service The Holmes Report , FH in the EMEA region has particular expertise in the areas of corporate communications , consumer marketing and public affairs, as well as in the health and technology sectors - each complemented by growing capabilities in digital communication . The Holmes Report also includes food and agriculture, sustainability issues and internal communication among the growth areas .

Controversy

In May 2004, the San Francisco Chronicle questioned FH adhering to its code of conduct when the newspaper found that Marc Bien , vice president of communications for SBC Communications (part of AT&T ), was not employed by his company, but had been paid by FH. SBC countered that he was just one of many employees paid by FH but worked for SBC.

After an assignment for Los Angeles from 1998 to 2004, the city sued FleishmanHillard for fraudulent activity and overdrawn bills due to falsified hourly accounting. The matter was resolved following a public apology and a $ 5.7 million payment to the city by FH. The company fired some of the locally responsible executives.

On behalf of the biotech company Monsanto , FleishmanHillard illegally compiled lists of around 200 people, mostly journalists. Depending on their attitude and influence, these are assessed with grades and divided into groups. Critics of FleishmanHillard's customer Monsanto are categorized as "educate" and "supervise". This also includes the former French Environment Minister Ségolène Royal . In May 2019, the Paris public prosecutor opened an investigation against Monsanto for illegally collecting private data.
