Flora Helvetica

The Flora Helvetica is a reference work for determining the flowering plants of Switzerland .

The work was first published in 1996 by Haupt Verlag , Bern. German and French-language editions are published, which are regularly updated and adapted to botanical standards . Authors are Konrad Lauber (1927–2004) and Gerhard Wagner (* 1920); Since the 4th edition, Andreas Gygax has been a co-author, employee of the Info Flora Switzerland Foundation . The Flora Helvetica is considered the standard work on Swiss flora .

In Flora Helvetica, around 3200 flowering and fern plants growing wild in Switzerland are depicted and described with color photos. The species description contains the scientific, German, French, Italian and Romansh names, the most important characteristics, the ecological requirements, the frequency and occurrence in Switzerland as well as further information such as degree of endangerment , toxicity , pharmaceutical use, pointer values , distribution maps, legal protection.

Flora Helvetica has also been available as an app since 2012 . In addition, Haupt Verlag published other thematically supplementary works such as the Flora Helvetica excursion guide (identification key ) or the Flora Vegetativa (identification book for plants in a blossomless state).
