Florbel Pérez

Florbel Pérez , full name Florbel Héctor Pérez Martínez , (born June 7, 1928 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan swimmer .

Florbel Pérez was vice South American champion in 1947 over the distance of 1500 meters at the swimming competitions in Buenos Aires . He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London . At the games in England he started both the 400-meter and the 1500-meter freestyle course . Over the 400 meters he reached a time of 5: 04.7 minutes on July 31, 1948, but retired in his prelim, won by the Hungarian Géza Kádas , as third in the first round. Five days later, on the 1500 meter distance, he took the hurdle of the first prelim as third and time best (20: 20.2 minutes) who did not qualify directly over one of the first two prelims in the six prelims. In the semifinals on August 6, 1948, he was only fifth. A swim time of 20: 32.6 minutes meant the end of the competitions in these games for him. He also took part with the Uruguayan team in the 1951 Pan American Games in Buenos Aires.
