Macrotylus horvathi is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 4.2 to 5.1 millimeters long. The species of the genus Macrotylus are showy animals with a gray-green basic color and rather parallel margins. They can be recognized by their thick hair with coarse, dark hair on the hemielytres and also have a conspicuous pattern on the membranes of the hemielytres. The spurs of the splints ( tibia ) are fine and inconspicuous. Macrotylus horvathi , like Macrotylus solitarius , has a pale green colored first antennae . At the tip of the wing membrane, however, there is a dark, circular spot to demarcate it. The thighs ( femora ) are also densely covered with dark spots.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed in southern Central and Eastern Europe, the northern Mediterranean area and south-east to the Caucasus. Although it has been found in many places in Germany, it is only incompletely proven and is missing in the northwestern lowlands. It is not often here. In Austria it has so far only been proven from the Pannonian East.

Way of life

In Germany the species apparently lives exclusively on black nettle ( Ballota nigra ), in Austria and in the Mediterranean area there are also records of other genera of the mint family (Lamiaceae) such as sage ( Salvia ), thyme ( thymus ) and rosemary ( Rosmarinus ). The adult bugs can be found from July to September, the nymphs until the beginning of August.
