Ahmet Doğan Börtücene (* 1947 in Istanbul ; † June 2016 in New York City ) was a Turkish soccer player and soccer coach. Through his long and exclusive activity for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is associated with this association. He played for Beşiktaş at the time when the club failed to win the Turkish Championship for 15 seasons .

Player career

society

Bötürcene grew up in the Istanbul district of Bakırköy and started playing club football in the youth department of the local amateur club Zuhuratbaba Yüce SK . 1969 visited with Süleyman Seba a club official from Beşiktaş Istanbul the training of Bötürcene's team and wanted to take a closer look at a player. On the recommendation of the club president of Zuhuratbaba Yüce, Seba also took a closer look at Bötürcene and transferred it to Beşiktaş for a transfer fee of 2,500 Turkish lira . After he had played a season in the youth of Beşiktaş, he was included in the professional squad for the second half of the 1970/71 season by the then head coach Dumitru Teoderescu . He made his debut for the professional team at the first division match on the second match day on September 27, 1970 against İstanbulspor . In the further course of the season Börtücene completed three league games. After the team had finished the season in 6th place in the table and thus fell short of expectations, Teoderescu was replaced by the Turkish head coach Gündüz Kılıç for the new season . This gave up the first five game days of the season entirely on Bötürcene and surprisingly played in the position of right defender in the game of October 24, 1971 in the away game against Göztepe Izmir . Bötürcene has played mostly in midfield to date. In this position he was so convincing that Gündüz Kılıç said after his team's 2-1 win against Göztepe: “We didn't win a game, but a new right-back” (Turkish: Bir maç değil, yeni bir sağ beki kazandık ). After this game he was placed under this coach and kept this regular place for the next six seasons.

Börtücene played a total of nine seasons for Beşiktaş and was just experiencing the seasons in which Galatasaray Istanbul dominated Turkish football with three Turkish championships in a row and then Trabzonspor won several championships in a row. In between, Fenerbahçe Istanbul also won some championships, so Börtücene with Beşiktaş remained without a championship title. At the end of the 1973/74 season, after six untitled seasons, winning the Turkish Super Cup and the Prime Minister's Cup again won a title. Although they were two TSYD cup winners during this time , this cup was not given any great prestige.

The 1974/75 season ended the Süper Lig again disappointingly in fifth place in the table, but was able to win the Turkish Football Cup for the first time in the club's history . After this success, Börtücene played four more seasons, but lost his regular place in the 1976/77 season and was only able to win a title with his club in the 1976/77 season with the Prime Minister's Cup. At the end of the 1978/79 season, Börtücene said goodbye with a farewell game played on August 2, 1979 against Rizespor from the football stage.

National team

Börtücene began his national team career in 1972 with a commitment for the Turkish U-21 national team . In the same year he completed three more U-21 internationals.

Görgülü was nominated in the squad for the Turkish national team in a qualifying game of the 1974 World Cup against the Luxembourg national team and made his international debut in the encounter on October 22, 1972. By January 1974, he completed four more internationals.

With the Turkish A selection, he took part in the RCD Cup 1974 and was tournament winner with her.

After the sport

After his football career, Börtücene settled in the US metropolis of New York City in 1980, initially without a valid residence permit . Here he only got by with odd jobs like gas station attendant. He then married an American and became a driver in a limousine service. He later lived and commuted between New York and Istanbul.

Coaching career

From 1998 Börtücene worked for the Istanbul club Sapanca Gençlikspor for a year and a half as head coach. Then he was from 2000 for his former club Beşiktaş Istanbul junior coach and in the summer of 2002 switched to Gebzespor as head coach . Between 2005 and 2011 worked in various areas for the next generation at Beşiktaş.
