Floriano Bodini

Floriano Bodini (born January 8, 1933 in Gemonio , Varese province , † July 2, 2005 in Milan ) was an Italian sculptor and medalist .

Life

After graduating from the higher art school, Bodini studied sculpture at the Accademia di Brera as a master student of Francesco Messina . His first solo exhibition took place in 1958. In 1968 his wooden sculpture "Portrait of a Pope" became part of the collection of the Vatican museums, which attracted attention in other European countries. In 1970 he was awarded the Bolatti Prize. In 1977 Bodini received the “Prize of the President of the Republic for Sculpture” from the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca . From 1978 to 1987 Bodini was head of the chair for sculpture at the Accademia di Carrara , and from 1991 to 1994 he was president of the academy. In 1987 he was appointed professor for plastic design at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where he held the chair until 1999. From 1985 his extensive cycle of major public works began, including in Milan, Parma and Varese. In 1996 he was awarded the Michelangelo Buonarroti Prize for Sculpture .

There is a museum named after him in his birthplace, Gemonio.
