The Algiers airport (also Houari Boumedienne airport ) ( IATA code : ALG , ICAO code : DAAG ) is located about 20 kilometers south-east of Algiers away in Algeria . It is the largest airport in the country. Around 4.5 million passengers are handled annually (as of 2009).

It was named after Houari Boumedienne (1927–1978), a former Algerian president. During the Algerian War it was called Maison Blanche Airport . After its modernization, it is considered the second most modern airport in Africa. The construction of a third terminal is planned.

Algiers can be reached via the N5 towards Bab Ezzouar.

Buses go to downtown Algiers every 30 minutes and cost 25 DA.

Rail transport

Since May 2019, trains have been running every hour between Agha train station in the city center and the airport, with a stop in Bab Ezzouar. The regular travel time is 19 minutes. A single trip costs 80 DA.

The airport is the country's aviation hub . There are domestic flights to Adrar, Annaba, Batna, Bechar, Bejaia, Biskra, Ech Cheliff, Constantine, Djanet, Hassi Messaoud, Illizi, Oran, Sétif, Tamanrasset, Tlemcen and Tindouf.
