Gerhard Riese (born April 11, 1954 in Tröbitz ) is a former German badminton player . Roland Riese is his brother.

Career

In his birthplace Tröbitz he learned the badminton game in the BSG activist Tröbitz . For this club he also fought for all of his sporting successes.

In 1966 he won his first medal at the GDR championships. Together with Klaus Skobowsky , he won the GDR championship in boys' doubles among the youngest badminton talents. Two years later he made it to the final of the individual, where he was defeated by Wolfram Schröter from Empor Eichwalde. In the 1972/1973 season he had the big hit. He was able to fight his way into the upper league team of the then record champions Progress Tröbitz . However, as in the previous year, the club, which is used to success, only made it to silver in the GDR team championship. In the following years Gerhard Riese found it difficult to assert himself against the following Tröbitzer talents like Klaus-Peter Färber and Werner Michael as well as the new signings like Harald Richter and only came to appearances in the Tröbitzer reserve in the GDR league.

Gerhard Riese lives in Schönborn today .
